Ward president in jail

Rahman Mian, the ward president of Saptari’s Dakneshwari Municipality-2, has been jailed today on charges of forging government documents and obtaining citizenship.

Court information officer Bharatmani Pokharel said that the 63-year-old ward president Mian Purpaksha was detained in Rajviraj Jail for the crime related to government documents and false citizenship.

He has been accused of embezzling social security benefits for years by creating fake Nepali citizenships of Kermet and Indian citizens on the citizenship of deceased and minors.

While the case was pending, Mian was elected as the ward president for the second time in the last local elections.

A case is going on in the Saptari District Court against 21 people, including Ward President Mian, on the charge that they have been receiving social security allowances by submitting their identity documents in the name of 78 people from the year 2074/075 to 2077/078.

In this case, it is said that more than 83 lakh social security allowance amount was embezzled. In this incident, a case has been registered on Kartik 22, 2077, with 21 people including Ward President Mian as defendants.

Naresh Kumar Singh, Deputy Superintendent of Police, District Police Office, Saptari, said that 21 people, including Mian, colluded with each other to benefit each other.

Pranau Singh said that in order to provide facilities for the target groups from the state fund, in the distribution of social security allowances, two citizenship numbers have been introduced in the name of the same person by collecting government documents and seals.

Mian, who was on the fugitive list, was arrested last Thursday on charges of embezzling government documents and citizenship by disbursing social security allowance and embezzling 83 lakh 41 thousand one hundred eight.

The then Ward Secretary Vinod Kumar Thakur, who was immediately arrested in the case, is in jail pending trial by order of the court.
