Cold waves from Mechi to Mahakali, how long will this situation last?

5 January, Kathmandu. Meteorologists have said that a cold wave has started in the districts of Terai Madhesh.

According to the Department of Water and Meteorology, the meteorologist says that the cold wave is running from Mechi in the east to Mahakali in the west along with thick fog. Life has been affected by the cold wave and increased winter. Most of the schools have been closed in the districts of Terai Madhesh after the cold wave has affected people’s lives.

According to meteorologist Vinu Maharjan, the cold wave is declared on the basis of the average difference between the maximum and minimum temperature, the period of no sunshine, the condition of hot and cold leakage from the sky, etc. Meteorologist Maharjan said that on this basis, cold wave was announced in Terai Madhesh district on Tuesday.

The difference between maximum and minimum temperature in Terai districts has decreased to 1.9 degree Celsius. A cold wave is considered to have maximum and minimum temperatures below an average of five degrees Celsius. Similarly, exposure to sunlight for less than two hours throughout the day is another basis.

Meteorologist Maharjan said that a cold wave is currently occurring in many districts of Terai Madhesh and such conditions are predicted to continue for another day or two. She said that although there will be thick fog and mist in the morning, it will reduce somewhat in the afternoon.

Now there is fog in Kathmandu valley as well. But the flight itself is not affected. According to meteorologist Maharjan, the visibility of Tribhuvan International Airport was four kilometers at eight in the morning. She said that the haze and fog in the hilly areas including Kathmandu Valley are gradually disappearing and the sun will also shine in the afternoon.

Today’s minimum temperature in Kathmandu has been measured at 3.6 degrees Celsius. Yesterday, the minimum temperature in Kathmandu was 4.6 degrees Celsius.

According to meteorologists, this year’s winter has just started. The meteorologist has suggested to take precautions as the winter may increase for a few more days.

At present there is no significant weather system in Nepal. As a weak western low pressure system is present in Nepal, there is no possibility of immediate snow and rain. The Department of Water and Meteorology has predicted less rain this year than last year.

As there is no rain, there is a thick frost mixed with dust particles in the atmosphere. Rain or wind speed should be high to remove polluted air. But since both these possibilities are not immediate, pollution has increased. That’s why meteorologists have suggested to go out of the house only wearing a mask.
